In this part of my planning i am going to look at how fashion magazines typically layout there front cover, contents and websites, in order to give me inspiration of how i should layout mine. Also, in this post i will include two ideas of how i want my magazine to look after doing research on other types of magazines.

Also, in this post i will include two ideas of how i want my magazine to look after doing research on other types of magazines.
----------------
Front cover
Typically in fashion magazines he central image is a mid shot of the celebrity/ model, which covers a section of the masthead. Although, the side heads typically go over the central image.
The background is a plain colour and depending on the theme of the magazine depends on the colour scheme.
For my magazine i am going to pick a dark theme ( e.g. black/ grey/ white) because when you see a magazine with these colour themes it represents a more mature and elegant representation.
----------------
Website
1.
(The blue writing is the plan of what i would like to include on my website)
By picking apart Vogues website it has given me an idea and a structure of what i want to include and where i would like to place things on my website. This has aloud me to have a clearer idea of what is conventional of a fashion website and what is unique to the brand.
To compare the aspects of these magazines i am going to look at Elle magazine also, so i can have a second insight of how to design my magazine and where particular aspects should be placed. Also, i have a clearer idea of what is different to Vogue magazines which gives me a range of ideas and options for how to style parts of my page.
2.
After looking at both i have compared and been able to piece together the ideas of what i would like to do when it comes to creating my magazine.
Planning- Typography
Planning- Post 1
Typography
I am looking at different fonts for the masthead and side heads, then coming to a decision of which one i am going to use/ a font that is similar of what i am going to use.
Masthead

In fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle and Cosmopolitan they use straight font, where it is plain, bold and sophisticated. This is done to give an impression to the target audience that the magazine wants to give them a elegant insight to fashion, not an out on the streets fashion.
Also, by having it plain, big and bold at the top of the magazine, it draw the attention of the audience as a first impression.

It is a common theme that higher end fashion magazines name there magazines in different languages, 'Vogue' means fashion/ fashionable in french and 'Elle' means she in french. Therefore, i have decided by inspiration to name my magazine in another language. I am naming it 'Moda', which is fashion in italian. i have chosen to make my name italian because italy is a country known for fashion, so will give the illusion to my target consumer that the content in the magazine will be of a high end fashion perspective.

One of these fonts are what i will use in my magazine, because they both provide the representation of a sophisticated magazine like i wanted it to. Both Fonts are conventional of a fashion magazine producing a high end style. This is because they arnt to crazy, they are quite standard and bold so stand out.
I will also, used one of these fonts for my side heads and coverline. Therefore there are two different styles giving off a similar/ same representation.

photographer research
Post 7
The research i am carrying out on the photographers that work within fashion magazines is going to allow me to see what sort of work they produce and what angles and poses etc, are used in order to form a conventional magazine.

Karl Lagerfeld, is one type of artist that i will be taking inspiration off because if i want to appeal to a higher class, younger audience, then i will need to take into considerate the poses, lighting, colour and styles behind his images in order to achieve my target consumers attention.

Institution Research
Task 6
In this task i learnt about the institution itself and what type of company it is. This helps me to see what content an institution of its type should be producing and how the institution has developed alongside the products it works with.
-------------
What type of media products do they produce?
Bauer media is Britain's biggest magazine publisher.
They also work in a digital business, where they launched there first digital-only brand in the UK in 2014.
In 1990 Bauer medias radio business was planted with the acquisition of London dance station Kiss FM, but now working with 81 local, national and digital stations in the UK, like magic and kiss.
In 1996, Bauer acquired digital music Tv channel The Box, now producing TV networks kerrang, 4music, magic, etc.
What type of company is it?
The business is apart of Bauer media group, Europe's largest privately-owned media group, in 2008.
It was founded in Hamburg and now operates in 19 countries including the UK, Germany, Poland, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
They work with 11,000 employees worldwide.
What are their focus?
The focus of the magazine is deep on the consumer insight and instinct, as they use strong cultural connections.
There mission/ aim:

The focus of the magazine is deep on the consumer insight and instinct, as they use strong cultural connections.
There mission/ aim:
“Our aim is to connect audiences with excellent content through our broad multi-touchpoint brand platforms. Wherever, whenever and however they want”
“Winning Together Through Passion, Innovation and Speed”
"We will grow and win only by working together • We will relentlessly seek out new ideas and develop existing products • We will always be driven by our customers and their changing needs • We will respect and trust one another • Innovation and excellence will be at the heart of everything we do."
"Informing and entertaining • Fresh and surprising • Relentlessly relevant to the communities we inspire and connect with • Standing out from the competition & consistently better."
From there mission/ aim we can see that they like to keep content relevant and new in order to develop with the changes in todays society, to engage with the audiences as time changes. They also like to have a hard working community within the company and with their consumers as they express there need/ want to engage with the audiences needs.
I can use their statement as a support in making my own as it shows how they want to engage with their audiences so i express the a similar view in terms of my magazine then the target audience is likely to have a good impression of the magazine and believe it is a focus on the consumer not on the money made.
----------------
This research has helped me to understand what institution the magazine i am producing will be apart of and how to fit there criteria to achieve a product that they would publish and work with.

Mind Map created by Skye Fitzmaurice with GoConqr
This helped me to discover how women and men in todays society are represented in similar and different ways and how they are represented towards the particular audience this magazine is focused on.
--------------
I went on to look into the representation and messages that fashion magazines websites provide to there audience. From this is helped me to learn about what audience magazines focus on and how they appeal to there audience. This will help me to create my website as i have learnt about how to layout a website and what content needs to be included to engaged to particular audiences. Also, colour scheming is a big contributing factor of representations and it provides connotations of todays society which appeals to the audience and makes them want to read further.

Genre research
Post2
In this post i learnt about the aspects in a fashion magazine genre, and the typical conventions that are included in these types of magazines.

I found that both share similar aspects, as both have a 2/ 3 colour scheme which gives it theme.
also the models are considered very naturally pretty, however in the 'vogue' cover the models eye makeup is a bit darker making her appear edgier and matching the colour scheme of the cover, showing the theme of this months issue. Both layouts are very similar and use similar fonts to create a more sophisticated look. This all represents the genre of fashion magazines because they want to appeal to a more sophisticated and mature younger audience and show that fashion can be trendy but natural and simple.
By looking at the genre conventions on a fashion magazine contents page it helped me consider ideas of different ways to structure the contents page.

history of magazines
In this task i looked at the history of fashion magazines in general to find out how they have developed over time in terms of publication (paper to online). Also, i did research into the publisher Bauer media and there history with magazines to be able to understand the type of content they upload and how what types of magazines they promote.

http://www.timetoast.com/timelines/1723789
From this i have learnt how representation in certain genres have changed and how audiences have changed on certain types of magazines. Therefore, i will be able to use this to adapt my magazine to the new audiences and make the representation of the magazines appeal to my audience.
